Want to know more about Major Ridge? Major Ridge was born into the Deer clan in the Cherokee town of
Hiwassee along the Hiwassee River, an area later part of Tennessee.
Major Ridge was one of the Chieftain leaders of the Cherokee Indians and was a War Hero,
Entrepreneur, and Statesman. He was probably best known as one
of the signers of the Treaty that ceded all Cherokee Indian Tribal
land east of the Mississippi in exchange for land in Oklahoma.
The Cherokee Indians were then forcibly rounded up by the US
Government in 1838, and began the journey popularly call the "Trail
of Tears." He was later assassinated by other Cherokee Indians
in 1839 along with his son and nephew.
If you meant Major Ridge the band . . .
it started when the four members of the band became the rhythm
section for West Rome Baptist Church. The guys began
playing secular music together at the
XL ministry and were
asked by many of the members to play at parties\functions.
The guys easily assembled a song list they had played from years
past and the rest is history. You can find out more about
each individual by clicking on their names below.
